Biography
Elia Poerio is a Professor of Applied Biochemistry at the Department for Innovation in Biological, Agro-food and Forest systems (DIBAF) of the Tuscia University, Viterbo.
Research Interest
1) structural / functional characterization of animal-derived enzymes and protein isolates isolated from plant sources; 2) surveys of plant genes (and proteins) involved in plant defense mechanisms as a result of biotic stresses; 3) structural characterization of amylase and protease inhibitors by mass FAB spectrometry; 4) isolation / purification / characterization of thermostable enzymes isolated from thermo-acidophilic microorganisms and their potential applications; 5) synthesis of solid phase peptides and their use for the study of the folding process of proteins; 6) heterologous expression of plant proteins with anti-proteasic activity and characterization of their complexes (EI) using molecular modeling techniques and mass spectrometry; 7) design, expression and characterization of chimeric proteins with selective cytotoxic activity against tumor cells.
