Research Interest
pathogenesis and immunotherapy of autoimmune diseases, with particular regard to rare diseases with autoimmune and autoinflammatory etiology; recruitment and activation mechanisms in the Erdheim-Chester disease; study and analysis of the role of viral agents in the pathogenesis of systemic diseases and mechanisms of viral escape from the immune system, with particular reference to herpes viruses; the role of T γδ lymphocytes in the immune response to pathogens (and in particular against Mycobacterium tuberculosis), as well as their cytotoxic activity against tumor or infected cells; the role of in vitro and in vivo activation-induced cell death (AICD), both in the context of failure of immune responses against tumor antigens, and in diseases of altered apoptosis, such as Canale-Smith syndrome (or autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome ).
