Biography
Maurizio Ferrari is an Ordinary Professor of Clinical Pathology at the San Raffaele University Health Care Center, Milan and Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Clinical and Cytogenetic Biology at the same Institute (Laboraf). She is a member of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) Education and Management Division (EMD), member of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institution (CLSI) Department of Molecular Methods, USA European Molecular Genetics Quality Network (EMQN). He is also Vice President of the Italian Society of Genetic Ophthalmology and President of the European Society of Predictive Medicine. He is author of more than 600 publications including over 170 in international magazines. He developed methods for DNA analysis as multiple PCRs also in capillary electrophoresis. He developed methods using the ligase chain reaction (LCR) and the double gradient denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DG-DGGE) to identify new mutations in the disease genes. In recent years he has focused his research on the study of fetal DNA present in the maternal circulation for non-invasive prenatal diagnosis. Finally, he recently focused his research projects on the development of molecular tests by microarray technology.
