Biography
Richard is a lobbyist and former United States Representative from Missouri. He served as the Democratic House Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995 and Minority Leader from 1995 to 2003. Richard served 14 terms in Congress, from 1977 to 2005, representing St. Louis’ 3rd district before choosing not to run for re-election. During his time in Congress, he provided financial and campaigning support for Democrats throughout the country, and was shortlisted as a Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000. After leaving Congress, Richard started Gephardt Group, a consulting and lobbying firm that he remains president and CEO of. He has lobbied on behalf of Boeing, several pharmaceutical companies, and the government of Turkey. He has also provided consulting services to Goldman Sachs, FTI Consulting, and DLA Piper. Richard currently serves on the board of directors for Centene Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Extend Health Insurance, Spirit Aerosystems Holdings Inc., and United States Steel Corporation. Richard holds a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. He and his wife Jane Gephardt have three adult children.
