Biography
"My research is in doctor-patient narrative. The cultural and contextual significance in processes of psychiatric assessment, treatment and medication regimes for psychotic disorders; and the specific cultural diversity or contextual variation in the individual experience of mental suffering and psychosis. Separating the self and identity from the illness to enable and empower healing. This research includes cultural brokering or mediating in mental health care rehabilitation here in Japan and person(patient) centered communication, patient-doctor narrative. Psychological, cultural, linguistic and medical anthropology. Narrative medicine where stories are told and listened to as key to successful recovery. My daily work involves organization and coordination of international student cultural exchange programs; proof reading, instructing, student mentoring (adviser), faculty committee duties, and data analysis. I am a director of health care for the Global Listening Center, and a director of the board of governors for a mental rehabilitation center in Sendai city, Japan. Also just started writing for a medical neuroscience blog. British national by birth. Permanent resident status in Japan. I have lived in Japan for more than half my life (and was raised in Bahrain, Singapore, Cyprus and England). Working toward a PhD in Ethnopsychology. Psychiatric epidemiology. Mental health, all ages. Cultural and social influences that affect symptom manifestation and cultural variations in the treatment of mental health conditions especially manic depression, bi-polar, schizoid and psychotic affective 'disorders' or brain fluidity non norms. Interested in fMRI data and how mapping neural activity/ functionality and understanding of RSN strength and fluctuations can predict and map brain disorders enabling faster and more precise medical intervention and holistic care."
