Biography
Professor Abul Faiz is a professor of medicine at the Sir Salimullah Medical College in Dakha, Bangladesh. He holds an MBBS from Chittagong Medical College Bangladesh, an FCPS and a PhD from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He is a former administrative chief of the Chittagong Medical College, and a former dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Dakha. He was Director General of Health Services (DGHS, Govt. of Bangladesh) from 2008 to 2009. Since 1978, Professor Abul Faiz has developed research interests in Tropical Medicine, especially in the area of malaria, organophosphorus compound poisoning, snake bite, nipah infection, kala azar and tuberculosiss. He completed and published various studies on malaria. He is a member of the Regional Technical Advisory Group Malaria, SEARO/WHO, the Malaria Treatment Guideline, WHO Geneva and the National Steering Committee for the elimination of Kala Azar, Bangladesh. From 2005 to 2007, he was a member of the Joint Coordination Board (JCB) of Tropical Disease Research (TDR), representing the South East Region of WHO.
