Biography

I currently serve as a staff physician and research associate at Fukushima Medical University (FMU) Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine in Japan, dividing my time among research (50%); clinical practice (30%); and teaching (20%). My clinical background is anesthesiology, and my major research interests are emergency airway management, trauma, emergency surgery, perioperative medicine, and sepsis. My clinical research has been featured in a series of publications [J Anesth. 2013; 27: 832-7, J Anesth. 2014; 28:381-9, and SJTREM 2015, 23:20], and in collaboration with Dr Sakamoto and Dr Kimura, of the FMU Department of Pharmacology, I am currently investigating the etiology of ICU-acquired weakness associated with severe sepsis using established myoblast cell lines. As a board-certified acute-care physician, I carry out my clinical service at the Emergency Department at FMU Hospital. I also care for ICU inpatients. The majority of my teaching activity takes place at FMU. I regularly lecture 5th-year medical students on endotracheal intubation and supervise practice using simulators. By integrating these multifaceted activities of clinical and basic science research, clinical service, and teaching, I strive to develop my academic career as a physician-scientist with expertise in airway management, trauma, and sepsis.
