Biography
MORITA Yoko is currently working in Gifu University,Japan. His research work is on risk factor of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer disease and the growing population of patients with these diseases is of particular concern in Japan. However, current medical and surgical therapies offer symptomatic relief but not provide a cure. A common characteristic of various neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease is the intracellular accumulation and aggregation of proteins due to genetic mutations or exogenous factors, leading to the activation of a stress mechanism known as the unfolded protein response. Both oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress have been implicated in the development of folding-related diseases. Therefore, small synthetic compounds that prevent both oxidative stress and ER stress may be useful to treat aforementioned diseases. We are currently developing compounds that protect neurons from oxidative stress and ER-stress using mouse hippocampal H
