He got the professorship in 1993 and his main research theme is NKT cells and intestinal intraepithelial T lymhocytes. Before coming back to Japan, he has worked at Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, Germany as a higher ranking senior scientist for approx. 10 years with Prof. Dr. Stefan H. E. Kaufman, who was a president of International Union of Immunological societies, and published many articles in prestigious journals with high impact factor. Although he is an associate editor in this journal, he also serves as editors in more than 40 journals including Editor-in-Chiefs.
