Biography
Dr. Ellen Soffin completed her residency training in anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She then came to Hospital for Special Surgery as a fellow in Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Medicine, and was invited to join the faculty on completion of her fellowship. Prior to her residency in the U.S., Dr. Soffin earned her MD/PhD in the United Kingdom at King’s College London and Edinburgh University and established a program of research in neuroscience drug discovery at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Soffin’s clinical interests include anesthesia for complex spine surgery, with a particular emphasis on pre- and intra-operative strategies to improve pain after surgery. She is a member of the department’s dedicated spine team. Dr. Soffin will continue to direct research protocols that she established as a fellow at HSS, which includes the link between obstructive sleep apnea and brain inflammation and the role of anti-convulsant medications in improving pain after spine surgery.
