Biography
Shigeru Nakagawa received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronics engineering from Tohoku University in 1989 and 1991, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2001. In 1991, he joined Hewlett-Packard Laboratories Japan as a Member of the Technical Staff. In 1998, he joined Prof.Larry Coldren's group at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and worked on long-waveglength vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), From 2000 to 2003, he was with Agility Communication in Santa Barbara, and responsible for product development of 1.55um InP-based VCSESLs. In 2003, he joined FiBest, Ltd. in Tokyo as a chief designer, heading a product development group of InP optical modulators for dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) optical communications. In 2005, he joined IBM Research - Tokyo, and has been developing optical interconnect technology for future servers and high-performance computers. He is now a senior technical staff member and a senior manager of optical interconnect technology.
