Biography
Zahra Mkomwa is interim country director and director of the MalariaCare project in Tanzania. MalariaCare is a partnership funded by the US Agency for International Development with the goal of scaling up high-quality diagnosis and treatment services for malaria and other fever-causing illnesses. Dr. Mkomwa has more than 25 years of clinical and public health experience. Prior to joining PATH in 2012, she served as a clinical officer and medical officer in charge with the government of Tanzania and for AMREF and the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), focusing on HIV and tuberculosis. While at the CDC, she led an interagency technical team for TB/HIV under the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Dr. Mkomwa couples her depth of experience in clinical services with expertise in program management, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. She has been recognized by the US State Department for her technical and leadership services. Dr. Mkomwa has an MD from Crimea Medical Institute and a masters in public health from Tumaini University.
