Biography

Dr. Benaim was born in Beer-Sheva, Israel and grew up in Caracas, Venezuela where he received his Medical Degree with honors at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. He completed his training in General Surgery and Urology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1998 and pursued further Postgraduate Urologic Research Studies as a Fellow of the American Foundation for Urologic Diseases. After completing his Fellowship, Dr. Benaim joined the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Urology Department where he became Associate Professor of Urologic Surgery and Chief of the Urology Section at the Veterans Affairs North Texas Healthcare System. Dr. Benaim’s main areas of interest include benign and malignant Prostate Diseases, Urologic Oncology, and Laparoscopy and Robotic surgery. In addition, he has vast experience in the fields of Reconstructive Urology and management of Kidney Stone disease. Dr. Benaim is an active member of the American Urological Association, the Society of Urologic Oncology, the Society for Basic Urological Research, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Benaim has published extensively in the fields of advanced prostate cancer and has participated as lead investigator in numerous prostate cancer trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, and is a member of the Benign Prostate Hyperplasia AUA Guidelines Panel. His awards include the American Foundation for Urologic Disease Scholarship, the Pfizer Scholars in Urology, and the Harry M Spence and South Central Section of the American Urologic Association Resident Assay contests. Dr. Benaim is married to Ruth and has three children: Deborah, Michelle and Bryan. He enjoys baseball, and spends most his free time with his family and listening to classical music and Jazz.
