Biography

Professor Yukitaka Kato graduated from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in 1985 with a B. Sc. He performed his graduate study at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) in the Department of Chemical Engineering obtaining his PhD in 1991. He then took up a position as an Assistant Professor and Professor at the Research Laboratory for Nuclear Reactors in Tokyo Tech. He has been Professor at the Laboratory for Advanced Nuclear Energy since 2016. He has been Professor at the Laboratory for Advanced Nuclear Energy since 2016. He is a Professor board member of Graduate Major in Nuclear Engineering, Department of Nuclear Engineering, Department of Environmental Science and Technology in Tokyo Tech. He visited at the Centre for Study of Environmental Change and Sustainability at the University of Edinburgh, UK, as a research fellow in 1997-1998.

Research Interest

His research interests are in the areas of energy storage and conversion, and energy efficient-utilizations of nuclear, renewable and industrial energy systems for bright future of global society with low-carbon dioxide emission. In particular he is concerned with development of some types of thermochemical energy storage and chemical heat pumps for efficient utilization of unused heats generated from engines, renewable energy and industrial heat processes, and nuclear powers. Active Carbon Recycling Energy System (ACRES) driven by high-temperature gas-cooled reactor and unused heats, and efficient hydrogen production and carrier system are also his research targets. He is a member of the Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan (SCEJ), the Iron and Stell Institute of Japan, the Heat Transfer Society of Japan, the Japna Society of Energy and Resources, and the Atomic Energy Society of Japan , and was member of Centre for Reserch into Innoveative Nuclaer Energy Systems (CRINES) in Tokyo Tech.
