Biography
Toshitake Kohno is Professor at Graduate School of Mathematcal Sciences, the University of Tokyo and is also Principal Investigator at Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU). His research interests cover 3-dimensional manifolds, braid groups, knot theory, and the geometry of configuration spaces and moduli spaces. He found a relation between the monodromy of the KZ equation in conformal field theory and quantum groups. His recent research achievements include quantum symmetry for homological representations of braid groups, geometry of infinite dimensional spaces such as the space of knots and the loop spaces of configuration spaces. He was awarded Geometry Prize of the Mathematical Society of Japan in 2013.
