James Mathenge

Biography

Mr. James Mathenge was appointed Chairman to the Board on May 24th, 2013 after serving as a non-executive director since 2008. He comes with a wealth of experience from the Energy sector particularly the oil industry where he previously served as the Managing Director and Country Chairman of Caltex Oil Kenya Limited between 1998 to 2003. ​Mr. Mathenge joined the oil industry in 1979 and has extensive experience in Management of Supply, Planning, Trading, Marketing, and Distribution. He is also conversant with the regional oil market, having worked at the Caltex Petroleum Regional Co-ordination office for East and North Africa Region based in Dallas, Texas, USA. Mr. Mathenge is the current Chairman of Tamarind Development Company Limited, Chairman Energy Logistics Consultants Limited and Director Mali Rasili Limited. An Economist by profession, Mr. Mathenge obtained his Masters in Economics from the University of Nairobi in 1979 and a Bachelors Degree in Economics also from the University of Nairobi in 1976. In 1987, he completed the Executive Development Program from the University of Chicago. He holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Economics from the University of Nairobi, and is a Director, Chairman and Member of several corporate organisations, professional bodies and community development programs.
