Penina Njoki Muchirah

Biography

I am scientist with a keen interest on immunological responses in various tropical diseases with an emphasis on the mechanism for effectives/ development of resistance for drugs. I have participated in two published research projects; the first examined the determinants of effectiveness of praziquantel on managing schistosomiasis and the second on the cellular responses during infection with Schistosomamansoni. Despite being associated with serious morbidity and mortality, schistosomiasis is largely neglected in African countries and my published work helped in sensitizing the ministry of health on the need to address these conditions, which are very common in Kenya.We looked at humoral and cellular responses and the major cytokines produced in each of the immune reactions. I have presented the work in both national and international conferences
