(with distinction), Addis Abab a University. Major: Plant Sciences Minor: Agricultural Economics. 1966 - 1967: Degree: Master of Science (with Distinction) Uppsala University, Sweden. Thesis title: Valerianaceae in tropical Eastern Africa. 1967 - 1969: Degree: Doctor of Philosoph y (with Distinction) Uppsala University, Sweden. Thesis title: Geraniaceae in tropical Eastern Africa. 1973 - 1974: Senior: Fulbright Post - doct o ral Research Fellow, Harvard University Herbaria, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A. The fir st Kenyan University Lecturer to be awarded the Senior Fulbright Fellowship. 2008: Degree: Doctor of Science, University of Nairobi. Thesis title: Systematics and ethnobotany of selected taxa and ecosystems of East Africa. The first post - doctorate degree award by the University of Nairobi
