Biography
Dr. Ellington is the Wilson and Kathryn Fraser Research Professorship in Biochemistry. Dr. Ellington’s seminal Nature paper published in 1991 while in the laboratory of Jack Szostak was the first scientific article to describe a new class of binding molecules which then named “aptamers”. Since then, Dr. Ellington has been one of the leaders in the aptamer field. Currently, his research focuses on using evolutionary techniques to engineer biopolymers and cells. Researchers in his lab select binding species (aptamers) and ribozymes from random sequence populations. They then attempt to apply the selected species to solve real-world problems. Dr. Ellington was also a founder of Archemix Corp.
