Biography
Dr. El-Tahan is a proud Newfoundlander, where he was born and raised. He completed his Medical Degree and Residency at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Following his residency, he continued his sub-specialization with a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center in Ohio. There, he gained a lot of valuable clinical and arthroscopic surgical experience in all areas of sports medicine, particularly the shoulder and knee. He was personally responsible for the care of two high school football teams and was part of a group that covered the Cincinnati Bengals NFL football team. He followed up on his experience in Cincinnati with a fellowship in Christchurch, New Zealand. There, he spent half of his time as a trauma fellow in the public hospital dealing with all manner of orthopedic trauma. The other half was spent honing his experience in knee and shoulder sports surgery as well as arthroplasty in the private system. Since 2012, he has been in Pictou County working mainly out of the Aberdeen Hospital. He has been fortunate to have access to plenty of OR time which has allowed him to keep his wait times quite reasonable. For this reason, he has been receiving referrals from all over the province and from other orthopedic surgeons, especially for joint replacement surgery. He is also one of the surgeons involved in the WCB Centralized Surgical Services Program, which has him operating in Antigonish, Bridgewater, as well as New Glasgow. Dr. El-Tahan's common procedures include: ACL Reconstruction, Shoulder Stabilizations, Meniscal Surgery, Sub-acromial Decompression, Chondral Surgery, Rotator Cuff Repair, Patella Stabilization, AC Joint Pathology, Total Knee Arthroplasty, and Total Hip Arthroplasty.
