Hussein Khaled

Biography

 I am a professor emeritus of medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. I started there as a resident in 1977; then in 2002 I served as the dean of this great and comprehensive institute for six years. Thereafter, I was appointed Vice President of Cairo University (2008 – 2011) and then Minister of higher education of Egypt (2012). I have been engaged in many activities related to the profession of cancer control on national level, such as secretary general of the Egyptian foundation for cancer research, head of the council of the Egyptian medical oncology fellowship, head of the committee of oncology university staff promotion and the editor in-chief of journal of advanced research (the official journal of Cairo University). In 2015, I won the State Recognition Award for advanced technological sciences in the medical field. Regionally and internationally, I served as the Assistant Secretary General of the Arab Medical Association Against Cancer for four years, the national representative of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) for Egypt and North Africa for six years (2000-2006), and I am the current president of the South and East Mediterranean College of Oncology. I am also a member of many international societies including ESMO, ASCO, INCTR, and the lymphoma group in the EORTC. I was also a member of the editorial board of the Annals of Oncology, the ESMO official journal (2006-2012). My research activities are focused mainly on bladder cancer, breast cancer, and malignant lymphomas, with more than 150 national and international publications (total impact factor of 470; total citations of 1741, and h-index of 22 as of December, 2015).
