Biography

Dr. Alvi is an orthopaedic surgeon focused on the surgical and non-surgical treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. He is double-fellowship trained in upper and lower extremity orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Alvi completed his first fellowship in hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder trauma and reconstruction at the Hand and Upper Limb Centre (HULC) at the University of Western Ontario. His second fellowship was in adult hip and knee reconstruction at Mount Sinai Hospital at the University of Toronto. Prior to his medical training, he completed his BSc, MSc, and PhD degree (University of Toronto) and is a registered professional engineer of Ontario (PEng). Dr. Alvi maintains an active orthopaedic surgery practice as an orthopaedic surgery clinical associate at Mount Sinai Hospital and holds privileges extending to Scarborough General, and Ross Memorial Hospitals. He is involved in orthopaedic related research projects in both upper and lower extremity trauma and reconstruction and has conducted research in the areas of non-surgical management of sports injuries (Sports Medicine Clinic, Mt. Sinai Hospital, Toronto), articular lesions around the knee and validation of the “Nottingham Hip Fracture Score” as a predictor of mortality in fragility hip fractures (Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto). Dr. Alvi has received multiple awards - most recently the A.W. Harrison Resident Teaching Award, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto where he was Chief Resident, Trauma Rotation at Sunnybrook Hospital. He has special interest in non-surgical management of sports and orthopaedic injuries.
