Biography

Born in 1947. Chemist, graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at the State University of Latvia. Works at the Institute of Organic Synthesis from 1969. From 1989 Deputy Director for Scientific Work, since 1992 also the head of the Department of Medical Chemistry. From 2003 December 2015 February - Director of the Institute.I.Kalviņš is the author of the original anti-ischemic drug Mildronate and the immunostimulator Leakadine, a new original Mildronate-containing pharmaceutical product (Kapikors, Mildronate GX, Neomildronate), as well as one of the authors of the anti-cancer preparation Belinostat. Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, member of the LAS Senate. Inaugurated as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg, Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Dentistry.
