Biography
I. Stonans was born in 1961 in Riga. He graduated Pirogov Second Moscow State Medical Institute (Russia) in 1985 obtaining Physician-Biophysicist’s degree and defended his doctoral thesis in immunology in 1989 (Candidate of Medical Sciences, Ph.D.). In 1992 he was invited to Heidelberg University (Germany) and a year later to Jena University (Germany), where he spent the following years in immunology research. He also headed experimental laboratories of Anesthesiology (1996-2003) and Orthopaedics (2004-2005) of Jena University. After returning to Latvia in 2006, he became the Head of New Product Development at Grindeks. Since 2013, he is the Head of Research and Development Department of Grindeks. Dr. Stonans is also the co-author of more than 25 scientific publications and 5 patents.
