Janis Stradiņš

Biography

Born 10 December 1933. In 1956 he graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Latvia. In 1960 M.V. Lomonosov obtained the Doctor of Chemistry (Ph.D.) at the Moscow State University. Has been working at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis since 1957. Founder and Head of the Physico-Organic Chemistry Laboratory (1961-2006). Since 1993 OSI Lead Researcher. Since 1990 Professor at the University of Latvia, Institute of History of Latvia. Vice President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (1992-1998), President (1998-2004) and Senate Chairperson (since 2004).
