Biography

Kartalian has been practicing orthopaedic surgery since 1997 with a specialization in foot, ankle, knee and lower extremity sports medicine. He recently relocated to Northern Virginia from Texas where he served as team physician for professional hockey and arena football teams. As a foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Kartalian treats a variety of problems including flatfeet, bunions, ankle sprains, tendonitis, and arthritic conditions. In addition to foot and ankle problems, his practice treats lower extremity disorders of the knee, hip, and lower leg. He specializes in treating and preventing athletic injuries by emphasizing functional training and evaluating gait and shoe wear. As part of a comprehensive evaluation, he also offers Footmaxx, a computerized gait analysis and arch support system. When conservative therapies fail to relieve your pain, he uses the latest surgical techniques including arthroscopy and minimal incision surgery to treat your problem. After graduating from Hamilton College where he served as Governor of the Pentagon Honor Society, Dr. Kartalian obtained his medical degree at SUNY at Buffalo, NY, graduating magna cum laude. He then went to Chicago, IL, for his orthopaedic surgery residency at Northwestern University. After his residency he then completed a foot, ankle, and lower extremity fellowship at the University of Maryland in Baltimore.
