Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; Professor at the Department of Biology, Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences; Member of the Senate, Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences; Member of the Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Research Interest

Entomology: Plant mining insects. Studies of morphology, taxonomy, biology and phylogeny of Elachistidae (Insecta: Lepidoptera) of the Lithuanian and world fauna; Faunas of various regions are reviewed: Central and South-eastern Asia, Far Eastern Asia, South America, Europe and especially Lithuania (1 monograph has been published on the theme and one more prepared for publication); during research about 50 taxa new to science were described. Morphology of family Elachistidae is investigated with a particular focus on structures relevant to taxonomy, phylogeny, diagnostic and identification; Biological peculiarities of all the ontogenetic stages are investigated. The majority of them have not been thoroughly studied or is unknown so far. Therefore, revealing of them is of key importance forming information databases of characteristics, which are further used for research in phylogenetic relations; Search for molecular DNA markers and their application investigating genetic polymorphism, population and interspecial peculiarities as well as phylogeography.
