Biography
Dr. Georgios Gardikis received his Diploma (2000) and PhD (2004) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. His research interests are in the field of network management, monitoring and virtualisation technologies, heterogeneous networks and integrated systems. He has collaborated with the University of the Aegean, conducting a national research project regarding experimental DVB-H deployment, and with the Ministry of Transport and Communications as consultant on digital broadcasting issues. He has also served as Visiting Assistant Professor at Dept. of Applied Informatics and Multimedia, TEI of Crete. Since 2004, he has been with the National Center of Scientific Research “Demokritos” as Associate Researcher in the frame of national and EU-funded R&D projects, among which is the IST-2004-FP6-027457 “IMOSAN”, in which he served as Technical Coordinator. He is currently R&D Manager at Space Hellas SA, supervising a number of national and European research projects and coordinating the company's R&D activities. He is Project Manager for the ESA CloudSat project on the applicability of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) to satellite platforms and Project Coordinator for the EU H2020 SHIELD project on the application of NFV and Big Data for virtualised managed security services. He is Project Management Professional (PMP) certified, Senior Member of the IEEE/Communications and Broadcast Technology Societies, Member of the Project Management Institute, and Member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 2001. He is the author/co-author of more than 50 publications in international journals and refereed conferences/workshops.
