Biography
1974 Graduated from Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine, acquired a pediatric specialty. From 1998 to 1989 Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases, Vilnius University, since 1990 - Professor, Head of the Clinic of Infectious Diseases at the VU, since 1994. - Head of Pediatric Center of Vilnius Children's Hospital, since 2009 - Head of Clinic of Children's Diseases at VU. 1984-1985 trained at Frankfurt am Main in JW. Department of Medical Virology at Gate University Hospital, 2001 - Vaccine courses for experts in France. Regularly attends scientific conferences and short-term internships. 1981 He defended his doctoral dissertation "The Clinical-Pathogenic Value of Lymphocyte Subpopulations for Children's Viral Hepatitis A and B" at the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute. 1990 He defended his habilitated doctoral dissertation "Immunogenic mechanisms of pathogenesis and prophylaxis of viral hepatitis B" at the Riga Medical Institute. Prof. V. Usonis is a member of the Board of the Lithuanian Pediatric Society (Chairman of the Board 1998-2007). Since 1993 Member of the European Society for Children's Infectious Diseases, 2005-2008 - Member of the Board of the Society, currently a member of the Society Training Committee. Chairman of the Board of the Baltic immunoprophylactic association. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University. Lecturer in the Department of Childhood Infectious Diseases at the Oxford University Extramural Postgraduate Studies. 1997-2003 Chairman of the National Committee of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Chairman of the Lithuanian Polio Eradication Certification Committee. Expert of the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC), WHO European Region Expert, European Commission Expert, Member of the International Expert Group on Various Vaccines. Together with co-authors, published more than 100 scientific publications on children's infectious diseases in the Lithuanian, Russian and English languages, among them ISI-referenced. Contributor to the Children's Disease Manual and other educational tools. Reads scientific reports and lectures on various vaccine and vaccination issues in Lithuania, Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Estonia, the USA, India, China, Korea, Latvia, Poland, Mexico, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine.
