Biography
Trained as a biomedical scientist with a degree in clinical epidemiology (MSc) and biomedical engineering (PhD), I developed an interest in health economics and decision modelling. Most of my work is on applying and developing health economics and outcomes research methods to improve value-based care, in particular cancer. Part of this research interest is to provide quantitative decision support for R&D. I am a (co-) PI on several international research consortia on personalised medicine and molecular diagnostics. I have co-authored 180 peer-reviewed scientific papers and have been a frequent key-note speaker at several international podia. My main appointment is in the department Health Technology & Services Research of the University of Twente (full professor and chair), with an affiliation to the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. I also work with the Center for Medical Imaging at the University Medical Center Groningen and the Luxembourg Institute of Health. I have an active leadership position in healthcare as a member of the (Supervisory) Board of Directors of Maxima Medisch Centrum (Veldhoven) and Radiotherapiegroup (radiation oncology). I am an active member of different professional societies such as International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (Cancer Medicines Working Group), and served in the ISPOR Board of Directors between 2013-2015.
