Biography
Senior researcher at the Human Biomonitoring Research Unit (Department of Population Health) since 2009, principally in charge of the research activities conducted on organic pollutants. Having worked for 15 years on on the toxicity of Polycylic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, she is now seen as one of the international experts in the field. Nathalie Grova has been working for several years on the development of new biomarkers of exposure and aiming to expand the existing knowledge about the relationships between exposure to pollutants and subsequent biological/biochemical disorders. Among the impairments induced by PAH exposure, neurotoxicity is still one of her main topics of interest. Nathalie has specialized in the development of chromatography-mass spectrometry based analytical methods for the detection of organic pollutants and their metabolites in complex biological matrices (plasma, DNA, urine and hair). In this context, one of her new challenges consists in developing new GC-MS/MS methods for assessing methyl-PAHs in hair and a new LC-MS/MS method for assessing hormones in hair. Author of 58 research items (including 35 scientific peer reviewed articles), she is also involved as a reviewer for several international journals and European grant programmes and an active member of Toxicology societies (e.g. EUROTOX, SOHT). Nathalie is responsible for the development and set-up of the whole set of animal experiments carried out inside the HBRU group. As such, she takes part in the “Animal Welfare Structure” working group and FELASA A and B trainings at LIH. Alongside all her research activities, she acts as safety correspondent and will be tasked with the implementation of the ISO 9001 certification and ISO-17025 accreditation plan for the HBRU.
