Chinangwa, Linda

Biography

Linda Chinangwa is a UNU-IAS Postdoctoral Fellow, working as part of the Food Security Impacts of Industrial Crop Expansion in Sub-Saharan Africa (FICESSA). She was awarded a PhD degree by Bangor University, Wales, United Kingdom, in October 2014. Her research focused on Conservation Biology with an emphasis on community forest management approaches and in her PhD thesis she examined the case of Malawi in discussing whether co-management programmes reconcile community interests and forest conservation. She also holds a Master’s degree in Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture from the University of Life Sciences in Norway and a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Malawi, Bunda College. Linda’s current research and career interest are in natural resources management, ecosystem services and sustainable development. Prior to joining UNU-IAS, Linda worked as Chief Land Resources Conservation Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malawi and was responsible for facilitating and formulating of policy on conservation of land resources, environmental education, management of natural resources, and general agriculture issues. She has also been involved in the implementation of various projects on natural resources implemented by the government in collaboration with NGOs and other donors. Linda has also worked as a consultant on a number of research studies in the field of forestry and agriculture.
