Patrick Chia

Biography

Dr. Patrick Chia is currently working at the Fetal Medicine & Gynaecology Centre (FMGC), which started in 2002. FMGC provides screening and management of fetal abnormalities and high risk pregnancy care. It also provides consultation for gynaecological complaints and combines the newer technological advances in screening and evidence-based medicine to promote fetal, maternal & women’s health and well being. In recognition for his contribution to ultrasound training in O&G, Dr. Chia was awarded the fellowship by the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (FAFPM) in April 2010. In 2011, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRCOG), United Kingdom. Having spent more than 15 years in the United Kingdom, where he obtained both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, Dr. Chia returned to Malaysia about 15 years ago. Starting as a Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), he was pivotal in the setting up the Maternal-Fetal Division of the Department of O&G. Having spent 3 years at UMMC, Dr. Chia was then appointed Associate Professor in the Department of ObGyn at International Medical University. Dr. Chia has contributed to more than 60 publications in peer review journals, chapters in books and review articles. He has also authored pregnancy books for the public and edited some books for ultrasound training, as well as many articles in pregnancy magazines and books. More recently, he has been involved in the development of an ultrasound reporting software which has the Malaysian growth charts and fetal weight estimation formulae for local women.
