Biography
Evren Saraç Essner serves as Berkeley Lab’s Head of Protocol. She is a protocol, diplomacy and policy professional with international and Bay Area experience. Evren comes to us from the University of California, Berkeley, where she served as an International Student Advisor for the past five years, engaging and guiding UC Berkeley’s international student and scholar population on matters pertaining to U.S. immigration regulations, UC Berkeley and Berkeley International Office’s policies and procedures. Prior to her UCB role, she worked for more than three years as a policy, external relations and protocol professional at the United Nations – International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), supporting Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, the Director General of the IAEA and the recipient of the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. In her spare time, Evren consults with Protocol Professionals, Inc., a Bay Area-based, global business- and international-relations consulting firm. Originally from Turkey, Evren has worked and lived in the United States, Austria and France. She has a B.A. from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, and an M.A. in International Policy Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
