Biography
As Head of Strategic Development, Kristin Balder-Froid develops collaborative R&D initiatives for Berkeley Lab’s science and technology missions. Working closely with the Lab’s Deputy Director and scientific leadership, she uses her skills in planning, strategy, and project development to build programs that increase the impact of Berkeley Lab’s research with the private and public sectors. Kristin began her Laboratory career with the Nuclear Science Division and the Laboratory Director at Large, Nobel Laureate Glenn T. Seaborg. She helped start the Physical Biosciences Division, becoming its first Deputy of Strategic Planning and Development. In this role, she managed the winning bid for the Joint BioEnergy Institute and has since been instrumental in the success of multiple large-scale programs, including two DOE Energy Innovation Hubs. Prior to joining the Lab, Kristin managed the Center for the Molecular Biology of RNA at University of California Santa Cruz where she earned her degree.
