Harcharan Singh

Biography

Dr. Harcharan Singh graduated from the University of New South Wales, Australia with a doctoral degree majoring in Supercritical Fluid Extraction of natural products. Started his career as a lecturer with the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Malaya over a period of 9 years. Dr. Harcharan then served as the Vice President and Head of the Innovation and Knowledge Management Centre at Mewah Group, a Singaporean palm oil refining conglomerate specializing in the refining of crude palm oil and production of downstream products (i.e. margarine, shortening, vegetable ghee and cooking oil). He was the head of a business unit involved in the production of specialty products In 2009, Dr. Harcharan joined the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation Sdn Bhd as the Vice President for the Business Development and Investment Division. Key responsibilities were to attract local/foreign investments involved in using biotechnology for the production of bio-based products and to facilitate the growth of agriculture and industrial biotech companies. Dr. Harcharan now is heading the Technology Management Office which is involved in the management and commercialization of 4 core bio-based platform technologies acquired by the former BiotechCorp.
