Biography
Dr. YY Choong obtained his basic medical degree at University Malaya in the year 1990. He had his postgraduate training in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur from 1992 to 1996. He obtained a Master’s degree in Ophthalmology from the National University of Singapore and was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom in 1996. Subsequently, Dr. Choong spent 18 months of sub-specialized training in cornea, anterior segment and refractive surgery in the Corneo-Plastic Unit and Eye Bank of the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, UK. Currently, he provides comprehensive services in the field of corneal and external eye diseases and has special interest in managing complex ocular surface disorders and dry eyes. He was the first surgeon in the country to perform deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) for corneal diseases and has performed up to 200 cases of corneal collagen crosslinking therapy for Keratoconus since 2007.
