Biography
Mahaletchumy joined MABIC in Jan 2003 as a Project Officer and later took over as the Executive Director in May 2005. Equipped with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry, a Masters in Biotechnology, and PhD in Science Communication, Maha transformed MABIC into a household name among local and international biotechnology community. Her passion to bring biotechnology closer to the society and engaging them as a partner in the development of this industry has seen a number of innovative approaches in public understanding of biotechnology. Her close links with government agencies, universities and the industry is an asset to MABIC. She sits on various panels and committees at both the national and international level, and is a regular speaker at biotechnology events. Maha is a recipient of 2010 TWAS Regional Prize for Public Understanding of Science for East, Southeast Asia and Pacific Region.
