Biography

 Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ali Abdul Khader was the Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Penang Hospital (1994 to 2015) and also the National Coordinator for Nuclear Medicine Services, Ministry of Health, Malaysia (2006 to 2015) prior to joining our center. He graduated in 1983 from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya and obtained his postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Radiologists, England in 1991. He underwent postgraduate subspecialty training in Nuclear Medicine in London (1991) for Adult Nuclear Medicine, Sydney (1994) for Pediatric Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) (2004) in Melbourne, Australia under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) fellowship programme. He was gazetted as a Radiologist in 1994 and a Nuclear Medicine Physician in 1996. Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ali was instrumental in setting up the Nuclear Medicine Division in Penang Hospital in 1994 and also the PET – CT services, the first ever in this country in Penang Hospital in September 2005. In 2011, Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ali established the therapeutic wing of the Nuclear Medicine Department in Penang Hospital, providing high doses iodine treatment for patients with thyroid cancer. Nationally, Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ali is involved in coordinating the expansion of the Nuclear Medicine services and setup in the Ministry of Health. He is also involved in several regional and international projects involving the nuclear medicine discipline. Internationally, Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ali is a member of the Expert Consultant panel for the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) project for setting up Positron Emission Tomography Centers and Best Practice in Nuclear Medicine. He is also IAEA expert member for the Quality Management Audit in Nuclear Medicine (QUANUM) Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ali is a member of the editorial board for the World Nuclear Medicine Journal and has contributed book chapters, articles and abstracts in nuclear medicine. He is a part-time lecturer and lectures to Postgraduate Master in Medicine (Nuclear Medicine) Programme (Universiti Sains Malaysia, USM). He is also an Examiner for the Master in Medicine (Nuclear Medicine) Programme (USM) and Supervisor for Master and PHD students in Nuclear Medicine.
