Biography
Allan Mathews, obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) degree from the University Sains Malaysia in 1976. He did his houseman ship at the University of Malaya Medical Centre, registered with the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia and started work as a Head of the Pharmacy Department at the Duchess of Kent Hospital,Sandakan,Sabah. His focus, other than managing the department was on developing patient-orientated services and he started doing ward rounds with the medical colleagues. In 1982, he was given the responsibility of setting up the Pharmaceutical Production and Quality Control Unit to produce large and small volume injections, dialysis solutions, eye-drops, ear-drops and galenicals. In 1984, he was attached to the National Commonwealth Laboratories, Australia for a month under the World Health Organization fellowship on Pharmaceutical Analysis. In the same year he was awarded a JPA scholarship to do a Master’s program in Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.
