Biography
Bapak Lutfi graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Purdue University in Indiana, the United States of America in 1992. He started his career in 1992 as a Director of PT Panutan Selaras, before moving on to the Mahaka Group of Companies as the President Director in 1994 and Chief Executive Officer in 2004. Bapak Lutfi led the Jakarta Chapter of the Indonesia Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) from 1998 to 2001 before he was elected as the National Chairman of HIPMI in 2001. Bapak Lutfi first joined the government of Indonesia in 2005 when he was appointed as the Chairman of the Indonesia Coordinating Board of Investment by the former President of Indonesia. He served in that capacity until 2009 and became the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia in 2010. Bapak Lutfi was appointed the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia in 2014 after the conclusion of his term as Indonesian Ambassador to Japan in 2013. He retired as the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia in October 2014. Bapak Lutfi is the President Commissioner of PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, an integrated energy company with businesses in oil and gas exploration and production as well as other energy related ventures. He also sits on the Board of Sime Darby Plantation Berhad.
