Biography
Dr. David Tan, a Malaysian national, joined UNU-IIGH in July 2016 as a Research Officer for a project on green infrastructure and urban health sponsored by the Newton-Ungku Omar Fund. He has a PhD. In Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota where he conducted his dissertation work on the degradation of estrone in biological wastewater treatment systems. He has also collaborated on research on antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in wastewater treatment and served as a Highlights Editor for the journal Environmental Science: Water Research & Technology. Prior to joining UNU-IIGH, he had a stint as a Technical Consultant at Malaysia Innovation Hub, evaluating and managing projects in water and wastewater treatment. David’s research focus is on how the complex issues of environmental sustainability and urban health problems can be evaluated and overcome through systems approaches and placed-based thinking.
