Biography

Dr. Chong is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Putra Malaysia. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in 1998, after obtaining her B.Sc. in Biochemistry with first-class honours from the same university. She worked briefly as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in National University of Singapore before taking up the post of lecturer in University Putra Malaysia 1999. Her research interests are broad and diverse and include pathogenesis of microbial infections, cancer genetics (association of single nucleotide polymorphisms with cancer risks), and etnopharmacological potential of natural compounds. However, her current primary focus is on gene expression profiling of microbial host-pathogen interaction using microarray and proteomics platforms.
