Biography
Chan Lai Keng is a Professor in Botany and Plant Biotechnology at School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia. She has been involving in plant tissue and cell culture research especially for the production of plant secondary metabolites for the past 28 years and has published 142 papers in scientific journals, 194 presentations in conferences and seminars and three books. Still, she has been actively involved in collaborative research with researchers from Japan, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, China, Nigeria and the United State. A total of six Ph.D and 28 MSc. students have graduated from her laboratory. Currently, there are eight Ph.D and 15 MSc. students pursuing their post graduate studies under her supervision. Besides the excellent service awards from Universiti Sains Malaysia, she has received other numerous awards which include the Commonwealth of Learning Award, Canada, Fulbright-Hays Award, USA, Japan Bioindustry Association Fellowship, International Women Invention Award, Korea and the Best Women invention Award, MINDS, Malaysia. She is also actively involved in Nature Conservation projects for almost 20 years.
