Biography
Hasmah Zanuddin, PhD University of Westminster, London, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Media Studies, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her expertise is Public Relations, Media & Communication Policy & Management, Research Method, Content Studies and Audience Research. She has vast experience in research collaborations at the national and international level such as the Korean-Australian Research Center, University of New South Wales, Australia.. Her academic works were published in books, book chapters and journal articles. She stays active as the Working Committee to the Social Development Cluster of the Majlis Profesor Negara (MPN) and a member to the Working Committee for the Social Council led by the Implementation, Coordination Unit (ICU) Prime Minister's Dept. Malaysia. She has benefitted from a multidisciplinary education in three different academic systems. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Creative & Descriptive Writing) from University of Malaya, she pursued a Master of Science in Journalism at Ohio University, United States. She received her doctorate (PhD) in Communication Policy at the University of Westminster Media School, United Kingdom. Her research interests are in the areas of Content Studies, Audience Research, Health PR, Media Policy and Big Data & Social Media Impact on Public Opinion, international communication as well as comparative media. She published in various publications and journals on communications and media in internation and local journals. Her co-authored article title Religion and media: a case study of Utusan Malaysia's response to HIV/AIDS was puiblished in ISI Thomson indexed Journal of Media & Cultural Studies and her recent international publications include Hasmah Zanuddin, Tham Jen Sern & Siti Nur Syahira Zakaria (2017) Current Perception and Willingness towards Organ Donation and Transplantation: A Survey of Undergraduate Students at University of Malaya, Pertanika Journal (Scopus Indexed). She collaborated with several other academicians in her research project funded by UMRG, FRGS and international funding agents. The output of her research on social media is reflected in her ISI indexed recent publications such as Impact of Social media's Perceived Online Community Value on User's responses (2017), Social Media Metrics Analytics: Study on B2C Fan pages (2017), Social media Measurement Tool Analysis: Study on B2C Fan-pages (2017). She alos actively published her works in Scopus indexed journals such as Impact of SM engagement on purchase intention (2017), Social Media Content Analysis "Study on Brand Posts of Electronics Companies (2017),Government Initiatives and Public Awareness on HIV/AIDS in Malaysia: Where are we After 30 years? (2016), She is activley involve in posrgraduate & undergraduate supervisions, where 7 of her PhD & MA candidates graduated in recent years. At the undergraduate level she teaches the public relations, media menagement and research methodology courses and for the postgraduates level teaches on media relations & management and media law & policy.
