Biography
Dr Hasniyati Hamzah undertook BSc in Land Management at the University of Reading, UK (1993-1996). Upon graduation, she joined C H Williams, Talhar and Wong (WTW), a major valuation and property consultancy firm; first in Kuala Lumpur and later at the Kuala Terengganu branch. In 2004, she left to pursue Master of Law (Property Law) at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland with the award of a SLAB scholarship by the University of Malaya. Upon the completion of her study in 2006, she returned to serve as a tutor, and eventually a lecturer at the Department of Estate Management, Faculty of Built Environment. In December 2008, she began her PhD at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, undertaking research into the impact of housing regulations on low-cost housing provision in Malaysia. There, she was active in the Malaysia-Auckland Postgraduate Student Association (MAPSA), serving as Secretary in 2010, and helped to organise research events at the University of Auckland Business School such as the Postgraduate Seminar 2010. Upon the completion of her PhD in June 2012, Dr Hasniyati returned to University of Malaya to further expand her academic career. A member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), Dr Hasniyati is actively undertaking research in alternative housing tenure, Mass Customised Housing (MCH) and the study of Putrajaya as a Smart City. In addition, she is a regular presenter at the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (PRRES) Conference and was involved in organising the Kuala Lumpur PRRES Conference 2015. Whilst housing studies and urban studies are her main research specialisations, her research interests also includes property law, heritage conservation policy and real estate education. In the past, she held the post of Programme Coordinator for the Master of Real Estate programme (2013-2014). She currently holds the post of Programme Coordinator (Master by Research and PhD), whereby she is tasked to ensure students' study progress. Currently, she supervises three master students - two of which are completing their studies soon. She has served as Article Editor for SAGE Open, Internal Journal of Property Sciences and Journal of Design and Built Environment, besides serving as a reviewer for a number of journals.
