Biography
Jariah Mohd Jan is Associate Professor in the Department of English Language at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya. She has held a number of leadership roles at the university as the Deputy Dean at the Institute of Graduate Studies; Deputy Executive Diretor of Asia-Europe Institute; and more recently as Deputy Dean of Research and Development and Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics. Her main areas of research specialisation are sociolinguistics and she has published widely on gender and power in relation to language, pragmatics and discourse. Recent research interest and publications have focused on pragmatic topics, women and leadership, discourse at workplace and academic concerns and needs of children in foster care.
