Biography
Dr. Sook Mei Khor graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Chemistry (2002) from The National University of Malaysia (UKM). She continued her M.Sc. study under the supervisions of Prof. Dr. Yook Heng Lee and Prof. Dato' Dr. Musa Ahmad (2002-2004). Upon completion of her M.Sc. study, she worked as an R&D chemist in a cosmetics and toiletries company for two years before she was appointed as a scientific officer at the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, UM (2006-2008). After gaining some working experience in industry, under the Malaysian government scholarship (UM SLAI research fellowship), she flew to Sydney, Australia in year 2008 to pursue her Ph.D. She obtained her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry under the guidance of Scientia Prof. Dr. John Justin Gooding (a great researcher, also is a kind and awesome supervisor) at The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia (2008-2011). She then returned to Malaysia in 2011 and was appointed as a senior lecturer in University of Malaya (UM) in year 2012. She has been working in the field of electrochemistry, focusing on enzymatic/affinity biosensors and electrode surface modification. She is currently leading a research group to work at the boundaries of analytical chemistry, analytical biochemistry and electrochemistry, developing different kinds of (bio)sensors for analytical applications.
