Dr. Kwek Kian Teng

Biography

Kwek Kian-Teng is currently Deputy Director at Global Planning & Strategy Centre, University of Malaya, and Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics & Administration.  She obtained her B.Ec and M.Ec from the University of Malaya, and her Ph.D from the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, Monash University, Clayton.  Her thesis supervisor was Emeritus Sir John Monash Professor Maxwell King.  Her research interests include international finance and monetary economics, economics of open macroeconomics, and financial econometrics.  She was the Deputy Dean for Research and Development at the Faculty of Economics & Administration, University of Malaya.  She has also served as Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Economic Association (MEA), and Assistant Managing Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies.  Currently, she is a member for the Board of Trustees for the Yayasan MEA, and Honorary Auditor to the Malaysian Economic Association.  She is also director of the East Asian Economic Association (EAEA), a member of the Econometric Society and the Royal Economic Society, and a life member of MEA.  She was a member of the Working Group for the Malaysian National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) for the Prime Minister, and a member of the Technical Resource Group for the Third Industrial Master Plan.  She has worked with Andrew Sheng on several international projects - the Asian Development Bank project on Strategic Framework for Strengthening National Capital Markets and Enhancing Cooperation among Southeast Asian Equity Markets, and the ADB projection of the financial sector for Asia2050.  She was a Fulbright scholar, a fellow of International Monetary Fund Academic Programme, a fellow of Hyman Minsky Summer Seminar, Levy Economics Institute and fellow of the Salzburg Global Programme.
