Biography

With educational background in both the sciences and the humanities, Sim has been in the education industry for more than 30 years.  An advocate of life-long learning, Sim began her career as a High School chemistry teacher and later moved to a  Matriculation College as a chemistry lecturer.  She joined University of Malaya in 2012 as a senior lecturer and is currently attached to the Medical Education and Research Development Unit (MERDU), Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya.  In MERDU, she is involved in developing and implementing the University of Malaya Medical Programme and currently manages assessments of the new curriculum. Her scholarly interests and expertise revolve around science education and medical education, with a focus on assessment, psychology, pedagogy, learning and cognition, and problem-based learning.  She has published papers in academic journals in both science and medical education, as well as presented research papers at various local and international conferences. Sim sits on the review committee of several journals and is an associate member of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry and a registered chemist.  Sim was also a recipient of awards such as Best Conference Paper Award (2010) and the University of Malaya Excellence Award (2011).
